For many businesses, Telegram is a working channel: a broadcast channel for announcements, a community group for customers, or a support inbox staffed by several people. Telegram also has proxy support built into the app, so the proxy covers Telegram alone and leaves the rest of the phone or computer on its normal connection. This guide shows how a team sets that up on Android, iOS and Telegram Desktop with the HTTP proxy from your dashboard, and how to check it is doing its job.
Telegram also accepts SOCKS5 and its own MTProto proxies. The steps below use HTTP, which every order supports.
Why teams put Telegram behind a proxy
- A steady connection for a shared brand account. When staff in different places manage the same account, one proxy gives it a consistent exit location, which keeps the account's list of active sessions easy to audit.
- Privacy for staff. Team members can work on company channels without connecting from their own home addresses.
- App-only scope. IT can see exactly what is routed where, because nothing outside Telegram is affected.
Picking the proxy type and session setting
Telegram holds one connection open for long periods, so a stable exit matters more than raw throughput. A residential proxy or a residential premium proxy suits a brand account that stays signed in all day. A datacenter proxy is the economical choice for short tests. Where the type offers it, choose a sticky session in the dashboard, so the exit address holds for the window you set instead of changing with each new connection.
Collect the host, port, username and password for the order from your Cheapest Proxies dashboard. Telegram's proxy form has fields for all four, so login-based proxies work without extra tools.

Android
- Open the hamburger menu at the top left and choose Settings.
- Open Data and Storage and scroll to Proxy Settings.
- Tap Add Proxy and select HTTP.
- Enter the Server and Port; if the order uses a login, complete Username and Password as well.
- Save with the check mark; Telegram tests the connection, and you can then switch Use Proxy on.
iPhone and iPad
- Tap Settings at the bottom right of the app.
- Open Data and Storage, then Proxy in the Connection section, then Add Proxy.
- Pick HTTP and complete Server, Port, and, if needed, Username and Password.
- Tap Done and turn the proxy on with its switch.
Desktop app (Windows, macOS, Linux)
- Open the hamburger menu and go to Settings.
- Choose Advanced, then Connection type, then Use custom proxy.
- Select HTTP and enter the Hostname, Port and any Username and Password.
- Click Save. A connection indicator in the app shows when the proxy is in use.
On desktop you can store several proxies and switch between them. Telegram lists a ping figure for each, which makes it easy to keep a second proxy on standby for the support team.
Confirming the exit address
Telegram reports whether it connected, not which address the outside world sees. To check that independently, test the same credentials from a computer with one command:

Remember that the setting inside Telegram changes nothing for the browser or other apps.
When Telegram will not cooperate
- No connection through the proxy: recheck the host, port, username and password, then run the cURL test above to learn whether the fault is with the proxy or the app.
- Connected but sluggish: try another exit location or type. On desktop, compare the ping shown for each saved proxy and switch to the more responsive one.
- Order set to IP-whitelist authentication: leave the username and password empty, and confirm that the current public IP of the device is on the whitelist in the dashboard.
House rules for brand accounts
A proxy is a legitimate privacy and connectivity choice for running your own accounts. It is not a way around Telegram's rules: no spam, no unsolicited mass messaging, and no attempts to return to the platform after an account has been restricted. Following Telegram's terms protects the brand account and the proxy addresses it uses.
Keeping data use in check
Text messages use very little data, but photos, videos and files in busy groups add up, and proxy traffic is billed per gigabyte. In Data and Storage, limit automatic media downloads on accounts that only need to read and reply. Current rates for all four types are on the pricing page.
