Colombian market checks: Hot Sale, four cities and one regulator
Colombian e-commerce spreads across department stores, electronics chains, Mercado Libre and app-based delivery such as Rappi, which started in Bogotá. Online promotions concentrate around Hot Sale, the sale event run by the Colombian e-commerce chamber (CCCE). One authority, the SIC, oversees both consumer protection and personal data.
Éxito, Falabella, Alkosto and Mercado Libre
Grupo Éxito (Éxito and Carulla), Falabella, Alkosto and Ktronix, Olímpica and Mercado Libre are central to online retail, while the discount chains D1 and Ara compete mainly in physical stores. Brand teams check the online players for pricing, product content and unauthorised sellers.
Hot Sale timing
The Cámara Colombiana de Comercio Electrónico publishes each Hot Sale's dates on its event site; add them to the calendar once announced. Prices, banners and paid placements change quickly during an edition, so schedule heavier checks, capture timestamped screenshots and compare with the same products a week earlier.
Four cities, four markets
Bogotá, Medellín, Cali and Barranquilla differ in delivery coverage, in which stores hold stock and in what local searches return, and Barranquilla adds a Caribbean-coast audience. Use city targeting for each market you report on and compare an identical set of products everywhere.
One regulator for two topics
The SIC enforces the Consumer Statute, including misleading advertising, as well as the personal data law, and larger companies must register their databases with it. For agencies, one regulator means a single place where both ad complaints and data complaints end up.
