BBC iPlayer proxies for business teams

UK residential IPs for producers and PR teams abroad who check iPlayer programme pages. Watching still needs a TV Licence and a UK location.

From $3.99 per GB · in your dashboard once payment clears · 99.9% uptime

What teams use BBC iPlayer proxies for

Media, partnership and marketing teams check how public title pages, plan and price pages, campaign pages and ads look in each market. Streaming or downloading content outside the regions a service licenses it for typically breaks its terms, so that is not a job for these proxies.

▸ Programme page checks for producers
▸ BBC programming research
▸ UK news coverage logs for PR
▸ Availability records for licensed shows

BBC iPlayer for producers, PR agencies and UK-facing brands

To a business, iPlayer is a UK audience channel: production companies and distributors check how their programmes are presented, PR teams track client appearances, and UK-facing brands follow what is being promoted. Teams based in the UK need no proxy. Teams abroad can view logged-out pages through UK residential IPs, but watching programmes still requires being in the UK with a TV Licence.

Programme presentation checks

Independent producers and distributors confirm that a programme's iPlayer page shows the right title, episode details and artwork for UK viewers. An overseas office may be able to make that check through a UK residential IP while logged out, then file screenshots for the client.

Client appearance tracking

PR agencies record when a client features in a BBC programme and whether the episode is still available. Programme pages carry broadcast and availability details, so a logged-out view from a UK session is enough to keep a coverage log current.

No ad verification needed

The BBC's UK services, iPlayer included, carry no commercial advertising because the licence fee funds them. Ad-ops teams auditing UK platforms can leave iPlayer off the verification list and spend that budget on platforms that actually run their campaigns.

UK residential, logged out

Residential with UK targeting, used for logged-out page views, is all these tasks need, and usage stays light because no video is involved. Keep one sticky session per review so the cookie banner and region stay settled while screenshots are taken.

The plan we suggest for BBC iPlayer

We suggest Residential here. Traffic leaves through household broadband connections in the country you pick, so pages load as they would for an ordinary customer there. iPlayer is a UK-only service that blocks the major VPNs, and the BBC refuses playback to connections it identifies as proxies. That limits UK residential IPs to page checks: they let an overseas team see programme pages much as UK visitors do.

✓

UK residential ASNs

Exits run on household lines from BT, Sky, Virgin and TalkTalk, so a programme-page check reflects an ordinary UK home connection.

✓

Sticky sessions

Keep one UK IP while checking a series and each of its episode pages, so availability dates and details come from a single consistent view.

✓

HD/4K stable

Bandwidth isn't the limit; the rights are. iPlayer streaming is restricted to viewers in the UK, so budget for page loads, which use far less data than HD video.

✓

Pass TV-license check

The licence prompt is a legal declaration, not a technical hurdle. Watching or downloading BBC programmes on iPlayer requires a valid TV Licence, and a UK IP address changes nothing about that.

Matching each job to a plan

Most teams run more than one kind of job. Data is bought per plan, so volume checks can sit on a lower-cost plan while the jobs that need a household or carrier connection get one.

Several markets, one order

MIX packages are ready-made residential pools covering several countries at once, so a multi-market report can run from a single order.

Getting the team set up

Four steps take a team from order to first check, using the browsers and tools it already works with.

1

Size the order

Start on Residential, the plan suggested above, and choose how many gigabytes the work needs. The proxy calculator shows the total first.

2

Pay by card or crypto

Stripe handles card payments and Cryptomus handles crypto. Each order is a one-off, valid for 30 days, with no subscription to cancel.

3

Set the market

Choose countries in the dashboard after payment, so one order can serve one client market this week and another the next. If a job needs a single city, ask support whether the network covers it.

4

Give the team access

The dashboard shows the login details once the payment has gone through. Pass them to the colleagues who need them, or whitelist the office IP so nobody has to type a password.

Rotation or a sticky session?

  • ▸Per-request rotation moves every request to a different IP. Use it for wide, read-only sweeps of public pages, such as price lists or search results.
  • ▸Sticky sessions hold one IP for a window you choose, typically 1-30 minutes, for signed-in or multi-step tasks such as stepping through a client's checkout.

Both are switched in the dashboard, and the options on offer depend on the plan. Keep request rates modest either way.

Signing in

  • ▸Username and password in the host:port:user:pass format that browsers, browser-profile tools and monitoring software accept.
  • ▸IP whitelist: add your office or server address in the dashboard, and anything connecting from it gets in without credentials, which suits shared office lines and scheduled jobs.

Both work over HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5, and the protocol can be changed later in the dashboard at no extra charge.

Match the IP to the market you report on

Search rankings, prices, ads and even which products appear can change with the visitor's country. Set the IP to the market your client or campaign targets, and the screenshots and figures your team files will line up with what customers there are shown.

  • ✓55+ countries to choose from.
  • ✓City-level targeting where the network supports it.
  • ✓One country per check keeps month-on-month results comparable.

Major markets on the network

United States United Kingdom Germany France Canada Australia Netherlands India Brazil Singapore

When a report doesn't match what the client sees on the ground, the IP's country is one of the first things to check.

How the four plans compare

Every plan bills per GB. The highlighted row is the plan we suggest for this work.

Plan Trust level Speed Cost From, per GB Where it fits
Datacenter Standard ★★★★★ $ $3.50 Bulk page checks, rank tracking and QA on your own sites
Residential Suggested High ★★★ $$ $3.99 Local prices, search results, ads and marketplaces
Residential Premium Very high ★★★★ $$$ $6.50 Demanding sites, brand protection and client work
Mobile 4G/5G Very high ★★★ $$$$ $4.50 Apps built for phones and ads served on mobile networks

The rate charged is the one shown for the live plan at checkout.

Keeping BBC iPlayer work within the rules

We sell these proxies for legitimate business work: market and price research, ad verification, SEO, brand protection, QA and compliant automation, including running your own accounts inside each platform's rules. Whatever your team does through them has to stay within the terms of service of every site involved and the law that applies to you and your clients.

  • ✓Collect only publicly available information, and pace requests so the site isn't put under strain.
  • ✓No proxy can promise that an account escapes action by the platform. That depends mostly on how the account is used and whether it follows the terms.
  • ✓Personal details in collected pages, such as names, contact details or reviews, bring data-protection duties with them. Agree with your legal team what you keep and for how long.

The full rules are in our acceptable use policy.

BBC iPlayer proxies: questions from team leads

No. The BBC says rights agreements mean viewers must be in the UK to stream on iPlayer, it refuses playback on connections it identifies as a VPN or proxy, and watching needs a TV Licence. For monitoring, use programme pages for details, and UK-based colleagues or a licensed UK monitoring service for viewing.
Reading programme information pages isn't watching a programme. A TV Licence covers watching or recording live TV and using iPlayer to watch or download BBC programmes, so any UK premises where staff actually watch iPlayer needs one. Check TV Licensing's guidance for your exact setup.
Blocked.
They cost more per GB and add nothing for page checks, so UK residential is the sensible spend.
Sticky. A held address keeps a review pass consistent, and rotation adds nothing when one person works through a handful of pages.
The BBC's usual answer to VPN and proxy connections is to block playback, and iPlayer has no subscription fee at stake. That doesn't make viewing from abroad allowed, so keep staff BBC accounts on normal UK connections.

Refunds

Proxies that fail on arrival can be reported to support for up to 24 hours after delivery. Support swaps them, and where a working swap isn't possible, refunds the affected amount. Details are in the refund policy.

Support

People answer tickets 24/7. Open one from the Support page in your dashboard and include the order reference.

Logs

Our records cover billing and how much bandwidth each order used. The URLs, page content and destinations your team reaches are never logged.
