Retail groups, Cyber events and SERNAC: a working brief on Chile
Chile's online retail is concentrated in a few retail groups, with Falabella, Cencosud, Ripley and Walmart's Lider brand competing with Mercado Libre and international marketplaces. Promotions cluster around CyberDay and CyberMonday, organised by the Santiago Chamber of Commerce, and SERNAC, the consumer agency, monitors those events.
Groups behind the brands
Falabella also owns Sodimac and Tottus, Cencosud runs Paris, Jumbo and Easy, and Ripley and Lider compete alongside Mercado Libre. Price teams often track a product across sister brands as well as rivals, because group-wide promotions can land on several sites at once.
CyberDay and CyberMonday
The Santiago Chamber of Commerce runs CyberDay around mid-year and CyberMonday later on, with the 2026 edition dated 5 to 7 October. Plan heavier monitoring for those days, capture before-and-after prices on key products, and keep evidence of how discounts were displayed, since inflated reference prices draw complaints.
Search, ads and property listings
Beyond Google and Meta, Mercado Libre sells sponsored placements inside its Chilean marketplace. Property teams also follow Portal Inmobiliario, where prices are often quoted in UF, an inflation-linked unit that must be converted before comparing with peso prices.
SERNAC and the new data law
SERNAC enforces consumer law, including how prices and promotions are displayed, and advertised prices include VAT. A new data protection law creates a dedicated agency and takes full effect in December 2026, raising the stakes for any project that stores details about people.
