What teams use Yelp proxies for

These are services companies deal with day to day, from review sites to cloud platforms. The proxy work is usually a check of what customers or users in another market are shown, inside each service's terms.

▸ Client listing audits by city
▸ Watching new reviews and ratings
▸ Benchmarking local competitors
▸ Checking local search rankings

Yelp for local marketing teams: listing checks, review rules and competitor views

Agencies and multi-location brands use Yelp for Business to claim listings, answer reviews and run ads, and they need to see how those listings appear to customers in each town. Yelp pre-fills searches with the visitor's detected location, so a city-targeted residential exit gives a manager the customer's view. What proxies must never touch is reviews: Yelp's rules there are strict and visibly enforced.

Check listings from the customer's town

After changing hours, photos or categories, open the listing and a category search such as 'plumbers near me' through a residential exit targeted to that branch's city. Note where the listing sits, which ads appear around it, and whether the updates show, then file dated screenshots for the client.

Review rules every account manager should know

Yelp tells businesses not to ask anyone for reviews, bans discounts, gifts or payment in exchange for them, and places Consumer Alerts on pages where it finds paid or coordinated reviews. Those alerts sit on the listing for customers to read, so keep proxies entirely away from posting or rating.

Competitor views, kept manual

Looking at rivals' public pages in a client's city, their categories, photos, hours and service areas, is ordinary research. Collecting those pages with tools is not: Yelp's terms prohibit scraping. For structured listing data at volume, budget for a Yelp Places API plan instead.

Plan and setup for the team

For listing checks, city-targeted residential is the fit, and one sticky session per city keeps Yelp's detected location steady while you browse. Yelp pages are photo-heavy, so per-GB usage depends on galleries opened; agree which branches get monthly checks and watch usage in the dashboard.

The plan we suggest for Yelp

We suggest Residential here. Traffic leaves through household broadband connections in the country you pick, so pages load as they would for an ordinary customer there. Yelp localises what it shows and rate-limits datacenter ranges quickly. Agencies reporting on local visibility need the view a nearby customer gets, and rotating residential IPs spread requests across consumer ISPs to return that same local data. Before any collection, check Yelp's terms, which restrict automated access.

✓

Fewer blocks on scale pulls

A listing and review study for a multi-location brand can be large. Residential IPs meet far fewer rate limits and challenge pages than datacenter ranges, so the job runs much further before it has to back off; keep its scope within Yelp's terms.

✓

City-level localization

'Near me' listings, search results and rankings all depend on where the visitor is. City-level targeting puts the IP in the market you report on instead of a distant default.

✓

Rotation for breadth

Automatic rotation lets a crawl cover thousands of business pages and review threads while each IP sends only a light, steady flow of requests.

✓

Drop-in for scrapers

Scrapy, Playwright, Puppeteer and in-house Python crawlers connect over HTTP/HTTPS or SOCKS5, signing in with username/password or a whitelisted IP. Credentials are issued instantly.

Matching each job to a plan

Most teams run more than one kind of job. Data is bought per plan, so volume checks can sit on a lower-cost plan while the jobs that need a household or carrier connection get one.

Several markets, one order

MIX packages are ready-made residential pools covering several countries at once, so a multi-market report can run from a single order.

Getting the team set up

Four steps take a team from order to first check, using the browsers and tools it already works with.

1

Size the order

Start on Residential, the plan suggested above, and choose how many gigabytes the work needs. The proxy calculator shows the total first.

2

Pay by card or crypto

Stripe handles card payments and Cryptomus handles crypto. Each order is a one-off, valid for 30 days, with no subscription to cancel.

3

Set the market

Choose countries in the dashboard after payment, so one order can serve one client market this week and another the next. If a job needs a single city, ask support whether the network covers it.

4

Give the team access

The dashboard shows the login details once the payment has gone through. Pass them to the colleagues who need them, or whitelist the office IP so nobody has to type a password.

Rotation or a sticky session?

  • ▸Per-request rotation moves every request to a different IP. Use it for wide, read-only sweeps of public pages, such as price lists or search results.
  • ▸Sticky sessions hold one IP for a window you choose, typically 1-30 minutes, for signed-in or multi-step tasks such as stepping through a client's checkout.

Both are switched in the dashboard, and the options on offer depend on the plan. Keep request rates modest either way.

Signing in

  • ▸Username and password in the host:port:user:pass format that browsers, browser-profile tools and monitoring software accept.
  • ▸IP whitelist: add your office or server address in the dashboard, and anything connecting from it gets in without credentials, which suits shared office lines and scheduled jobs.

Both work over HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5, and the protocol can be changed later in the dashboard at no extra charge.

Match the IP to the market you report on

Search rankings, prices, ads and even which products appear can change with the visitor's country. Set the IP to the market your client or campaign targets, and the screenshots and figures your team files will line up with what customers there are shown.

  • ✓55+ countries to choose from.
  • ✓City-level targeting where the network supports it.
  • ✓One country per check keeps month-on-month results comparable.

When a report doesn't match what the client sees on the ground, the IP's country is one of the first things to check.

How the four plans compare

Every plan bills per GB. The highlighted row is the plan we suggest for this work.

Plan Trust level Speed Cost From, per GB Where it fits
Datacenter Standard ★★★★★ $ $3.50 Bulk page checks, rank tracking and QA on your own sites

The rate charged is the one shown for the live plan at checkout.

Keeping Yelp work within the rules

We sell these proxies for legitimate business work: market and price research, ad verification, SEO, brand protection, QA and compliant automation, including running your own accounts inside each platform's rules. Whatever your team does through them has to stay within the terms of service of every site involved and the law that applies to you and your clients.

  • ✓Collect only publicly available information, and pace requests so the site isn't put under strain.
  • ✓No proxy can promise that an account escapes action by the platform. That depends mostly on how the account is used and whether it follows the terms.
  • ✓Personal details in collected pages, such as names, contact details or reviews, bring data-protection duties with them. Agree with your legal team what you keep and for how long.

The full rules are in our acceptable use policy.

Yelp proxies: questions from team leads

Yelp shapes results around the searcher's location, filters and the exact terms used, and ad placements vary between searches. Check the listing over residential traffic targeted to the client's city, signed out, with the same search wording customers use. Expect some variation even then, and compare like with like month to month.
No. Writing reviews for clients, trading reviews or paying for them breaks Yelp's terms, and the report tools exist for genuine guideline violations, not for thinning out a rival's page. Coordinated activity can earn a client's page a public Consumer Alert. Our network isn't available for any of it.
Within a handful of requests, Yelp's bot-mitigation recognises server-room ASNs and answers with challenges or rate limits. Residential IPs bring real-ISP reputation, which lets public-data collection for a client report run much further before it slows.
If the report covers a city, the IP should be there. Yelp localises heavily, so only an IP in the target city returns the rankings and 'near me' results nearby users see; the wrong location skews what you hand the client.
Rotate for read-only public collection, which keeps per-IP rates low across a large crawl. Keep a sticky session only when someone signs in to a single business account, such as a client's own listing.
Its terms restrict automated access, so start there. Where Yelp's official API covers your needs, use it; anything else should be public data, gathered at reasonable rates for legitimate research. A proxy makes access more reliable, but it never overrides the terms.

Refunds

Proxies that fail on arrival can be reported to support for up to 24 hours after delivery. Support swaps them, and where a working swap isn't possible, refunds the affected amount. Details are in the refund policy.

Support

People answer tickets 24/7. Open one from the Support page in your dashboard and include the order reference.

Logs

Our records cover billing and how much bandwidth each order used. The URLs, page content and destinations your team reaches are never logged.
