Ad Verification Proxies: A Playbook for Ad-Ops Teams
Ad verification tells whoever pays for media whether a campaign actually ran as bought: which creative appeared, where it was placed, who could see it, in which country, and whether the click led to an honest landing page. Ad networks choose what to serve from the visitor's IP and location, so a check is only valid if it comes from an address that looks like a real user in the market being checked.
That is the job residential and mobile proxies do, and the reason they are the accepted standard for verification. This playbook covers how geo-targeting works in practice and how to build a checking routine that respects every site's terms of service.
We write these guides for e-commerce, marketing and agency teams that pay for proxies by the gigabyte.
What a verification programme checks
Most ad-ops teams track five things, campaign by campaign:
- Geo-targeting accuracy — the campaign reaches the regions it was bought for, and no others.
- Creative compliance — the approved creative renders correctly, with no broken assets and no wrong variant.
- Landing-page integrity — the click goes to the intended page, without unexpected redirects on the way.
- Ad fraud signals — hidden ads, odd placements, or inventory sold as something it is not.
- Competitive intelligence — the creatives competitors run in each market.
Why datacenter IPs give a false picture
Ad networks split their inventory by geography and by ASN, the identifier of the network an address belongs to. Requests that appear to come from a data centre are often shown different ads, or nothing at all. Checking through a datacenter proxy therefore shows the team a view no customer ever gets, and the exercise loses its point. A check worth reporting needs an address that resolves to a real consumer network in the target location.
Residential for desktop, mobile for phone inventory
Residential
Residential proxies handle most verification work. They reproduce what a household in a chosen country, or a chosen city in major markets, sees on desktop placements. Pricing starts at $3.99/GB.
Mobile (4G/5G)
Many campaigns run only on phones. Mobile proxies show those ads as a cellular subscriber would see them, right down to the carrier's ASN. Most programmes combine the two tiers so that desktop and mobile inventory are covered.
Which tier for which check
Use the table to brief the team on the proxy type each part of the programme needs.
| Task | Proxy type | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop placements | Residential | Seen as a real household in the market |
| Phone-only campaigns | Mobile (4G/5G) | Seen as a genuine cellular subscriber |
| Checks in one city | Residential | City targeting in major markets |
| Large daily audits | Residential (rotating) | Checks spread across many IPs |
| Hardest ad networks | Residential Premium | A higher success rate on demanding targets |
Building the checking routine
Set the country for each campaign, plus the city where the market supports it, and route the verification tool through residential IPs, adding mobile IPs for mobile inventory. Run daily checks on high-spend campaigns and at least weekly checks on the rest. Coverage reaches 55+ countries, access is delivered instantly, and HTTP/HTTPS and SOCKS5 both work.
Platform-specific detail is on proxies for ad verification. To budget the programme, use the proxy calculator and the pricing page, or buy now. Every check should stay within the platform's terms of service.
Match the pool to the workflow
Every pool is billed per GB and run from the same dashboard, so one team can keep low-cost volume work and high-trust checks side by side.
High-volume collection from unprotected sites, automation, SEO tools
Market research, ad verification and geo-accurate checks on protected sites
Phone-first platforms, app and mobile ad testing
Hard targets where every failed request is costly
Covering several markets in one report? MIX packages combine multi-country residential traffic in a single order. Agencies buying on behalf of clients can apply for the reseller programme.
